i love these-i’ve already gone on and on about the raven in that painting, but that first maquette blows me away! it really stands out; i am amazed by those wings, with their little butterfly details. they are so large, almost to the point of seeming unwieldy-massive, powerful, and yet those details speak to such delicate beauty! a really impressive definition of angelic.
I found the bird maquette in my painting store, having completely forgotten that it was there. Now it’s to go into ‘Touch’, which is opening on the 25th March. Martin Tinney has earmarked quite a few maquettes for the show, and so there’s also a dragon, a Hervé with Wolf in ‘attack mode’ (framed together) and the small articulated wolf that was the model for all of the Hervé drawings and paintings. It’ll be interesting to see them all together on the walls of the gallery.
