held

While out and about with her camera, my friend Philippa Robbins caught sight of something that reminded her of me. A thousand people would have walked past and not made the connection, but Philippa is a painter and her eye misses nothing. The detail beneath her photograph is from my painting Kevin and the Sunflowers. That should explain everything.

Thank you Philippa for taking the photograph and then sending it to me. I love the fact that you spotted the digger and immediately recognised that I would relish an image of it! By coincidence, here is the drawing (or rather a detail from it) that I’m currently working on!

    • Hello Marly! Good to see you back!

Clear to you maybe, but perhaps not to everyone, particularly new arrivals at the Artlog. Great photograph isn’t it? Clearly it had to go up.

How are you faring? Trees down and near-misses. Crazy weather!

    • Philippa, you, Dave and the girls are a shining beacon in our lives, and I think you personally can do no wrong. I hope you won’t mind me sharing a part of your morning e-mail with visitors to the Artlog. You wrote of the building site you visited:

‘I’m sure you’d approve of the site – the digger has worked so carefully, the soil is all being saved to be put back, the old house is becoming the hardcore for the new so as little as possible is taken from and to the site, and a new Bat House is being built, complete with pond, to welcome the little beasts back.

‘Held’ in German means hero, which is how I’d thought you’d titled the photo. Perfect in both meanings.

Lots of Love to you and Peter and a schmooz for Jack,
      Love
      P XXX’

(I didn’t know ‘held’ means ‘hero’ in German, and so my choice of title for the post was a happy accident of the type I so love! C )
