Flight is the theme today as I set about translating the complex patterns of this recent chiaroscuro version of archangel Raphael’s wings…
… to the full colour wings of the current painting.
I’m painting with the panel set on its side so that I can reach the top of it. Just the base colours of phthalocyanine blue and cobalt turquoise being worked in at the moment, after which I’ll start laying in the patterning. It’s a long job as the markings suggest turbulent waves, flow patterns, constellations and overlapping pinions, so there’s nothing for it but to keep my concentration fixed and to work work work.
Outside the sun is shining, the garden is beautiful and Jack is giving me a fixed look of recrimination combined with expectation. How long, I wonder, before he breaks my resolve and I put down my brushes. I’d say about another twenty minutes!
