the unstoppable zoe blue

My friend and regular commentator on the Artlog, artist, writer and blogger Zoe Blue, has made another wonderful maquette. I gave Zoe some e-mail tutorials when she started exploring the notion of maquettes, but she has progressed to the point where I can teach her no more because she’s really mastered the artform. Here is her latest character, a sinuous, sexy, snake-hipped tango dancer. I love the notion of the bare chest, hat and gloves, like something Bob Fosse would have dreamt up!

I posted images of Zoe’s first maquettes some time ago, and from the comments they generated I think many visitors greatly enjoyed what she had made.

Here is the painting that resulted from her explorations with the little figures. I love this image, and I love the wonderful palette of blues and tawny oranges that Zoe has developed for her work But most of all I love that cat!

I believe Zoe and her collaborator Vesna are creating an illustrated story that this image is a part of. Can’t wait to see what comes of their combined creativity. It looks as though a compelling twilit world of dreamscapes and erotic trysts is emerging here!

    • She watched, asked questions, applied herself and took to the technique like a duck to water. It was a good ‘process’ for her not so much because of the reasons I have for using maquettes (to distract me from being too wedded to observed anatomy) but because it helped her to be more playful and inventive with composition before committing to an idea.

        • Pilfer away. It’s your film quite as much as it’s Pete’s Kathe’s, Peter’s and mine. Collaborations are jointly owned! (-;

          I’m pleased that you pointed Paul in the right direction to see the animation, and that you excavated my e-letter to Gerwyn. (I wonder whether he ever saw it. He never replied. But then it was a very long letter!)

  2. Zoe is quite amazing and it makes me happy whenever she gets the spotlight. This is a beautiful blog where positive and creative energy just bursts. To see the mention of Zoe’s and mine collaboration here is so thrilling:) Thank you Clive for this treat:)
