Alphabet Soup: Moving pictures – Natalie d’Arbeloff and Vicki Johnson

Two contributors offered moving picture submissions.

Natalie used the coloured alphabet shown earlier in a video.  She says:

I made digital paintings of each letter then a speeded-up slideshow with multi-tracks of my voice saying random letters. It’s a ‘poem-like thing’

Vicki Johnson, who goes under the lovely nom-de-toile of Zephyr at The Garden, found letters in the sky, and made a delightful slideshow of them in the form of pages turning in a book.  Unfortunately, I can’t find a way to embed this successfully here, (it seems to require a special plug-in for WordPress which I did download but can’t, or daren’t, put into operation for fear of doing harm to Clive’s Artlog, for which I would never forgive myself!).

However, it’s only a click away on the link below, so please go and see it; it’s very short and utterly charming.

Searching for my ABCs

(If I find a way to do the embedding, I shall correct this, sorry Vicki).

  1. Thank you again Lucy and Shellie and Clive and all the artists for making this most enjoyable visual banquet for everyone to share. I’m so glad to be a part of it.

  2. What an amazing and hugely varied collection of ABCs in this Alphabet Soup! I would have a hard time selecting a favourite for each is as unique as the artist behind it. Thanks for the wonderful curating, Lucy and Shellie and for hosting this, Clive. Merry Christmas to all!

  3. Natalie’s video and poem are so effective, it’s less than a minute long but feels like there’s so much going on in it, which there is of course. Vicky’s book is delightful, it makes me feel like I’m unwinding looking at it, very therapeutic at Christmas!

  4. I like! I like!! Hypnotic repetition of the alphabet in Natalie’s piece really reminded me of being very small and learning to say things by rote…plus the bonus of the images. A beautiful, complete piece. And Vicki’s piece really made me smile….so wonderfully put together and ‘look-at-able’! I like to be reminded that lots of us ‘see things’ like shapes in the clouds and monsters in the wooden floor of the loo (or is that just me??) What a joy to see these two moving pictures….the Soup gets deeper and more full of interesting stuff as it boils!
