“If you ever hear of anyone carrying on that most filthy practice of dressing up like a Horse or a Stag, punish him most severely.”

The saint’s recommendation notwithstanding, in my studio the Mari Lwyd reigns as I prepare to start a new painting.

haha, filthy?? really…
terrifying, ok. but filthy??
i have to agree with everyone about those eyes. eek!
Look out! They’re comin’ atcha Zoe!
Who knew pink could be so very creepy?
I wonder if Augustine was referring to Bacchanalian festivities there…
Can’t say. But he doesn’t sound very friendly!
The eyes (all three of them) – very unnerving!
I was particularly pleased with the Mari Lwyd eye. There are three elements of photographic collage in it: the pinkish granular rim, the fragment of white scratches against a dark ground, and an upside-down human eye. Creepy, no?
creepy yes!! The Mari lwyd seems to really focus on you as you look at it.
