Apologies for the recent irregularity of Artlog posts. As the pressure cranks up with regard to the forthcoming exhibition, I find my crowded schedule getting even more log-jammed than usual. Many of you will already know that I have a passionate love of toy theatres, using them in my process of work, and also occasionally as subject matter within still-life paintings. With my retrospective imminent I decided to try and complete a toy theatre that for too long has languished unfinished on my work-table, so that it might be included in the exhibition. Here, as a taster, is the just-completed proscenium arch laid out on the sitting-room floor.
Some iconography familiar to those who know my work, including a disgorging foliate head, fanciful flora and a scattering of falling oak leaves. The toy theatre will include a full stage and a set of scenery and characters, though you will have to wait a little longer for me to post images of it in the finished state.
