I knew that after collaborating with Johann Rohl on the ‘garden’ for Sarah Parvin’s forthcoming ‘The Curious One’, website, that the spirit of what we made would drive me to further explore the theme. Today I made The Enclosure in oil pastel, the first of a planned set of small garden images. The iconography devised with Johann…red brick walled-garden, dark flower beds, trees and garden follies… are all about to find their ways into the new work.

There’s no garden gate – no way in or out. Is this significant?
Probably. Shouldn’t put of the beast, who can jump it.
Too much exposure to the Artlog can be dangerous for the excitable of nature!! No sooner do I finish rhapsodising over my own corner of paradise, which you and Johann have created for me, than another beautiful garden appears, as if by magic. Absolutely sublime!!
Well, I guess this is what happens when two artists work in a studio together. There are ‘developments’!
I love this , it’s beautiful, I’m looking forward to the rest. What size is it?xL
Um, haven’t got a ruler or tape, but I estimate it’s about 35 cms high.

What a bewitching image, full of mystery, The Enclosure is wonderful. And I’m in awe of anyone who can wield this medium so beautifully, I find it so difficult!
Thank you, Phil. Don’t sweat over oil pastel. You just have to channel it. I swear it’s not difficult to get the best out of it if you relax and get messy. (A bit like sex!)!
Ha! Ok, I’ll approach it as you suggest and see what happens!
These are gorgeous and full of depth. I have been enjoying the posts but so snowed under with a new school that haven’t found time to comment. Hansel and Gretel have set the shivers going as well.
Pleased to know that you still pop by, and thank you for dropping in a comment. Much appreciated.
